Kathmandu: Parliamentarians from the Nepali Congress (NC) have called for financial compensation for victims of cooperative scams, urging that the payment should come directly from the offending cooperatives.

During a parliamentary party meeting held on Monday at the Parliament Building in Baneshwor, lawmakers emphasized that those responsible for misappropriating funds must be held accountable for repaying the victims. They noted that the compensation required is substantial, making it impractical for the State to bear the financial burden.

Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire informed lawmakers that the government had introduced an ordinance aligned with this principle. He expressed confidence that the ordinance would help address the concerns of victims effectively.

In the meeting, discussions also touched on contemporary political issues, with Ghimire reassuring that the government would adhere to the seven-point agreement reached between the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML).

Furthermore, NC ministers serving in the government provided updates on their respective ministries' achievements and ongoing initiatives.

The parliamentary party meeting has been postponed and is scheduled to reconvene at 8:00 a.m. on January 31.
